Detailed Itinerary
• Day 1: Arrive in Quito
Quito Ecuador Pioneer JourneysThis first day you arrive in Quito. After the check-in in your hotel and rest a little from your flight, you are going to have a meeting with the tour guide, who is the person that came with you all along the trip. Then you have some free time to get yourself confortable or if you prefer visit touristic places or take a walk around the area.
• Day 2: City Tour in Quito
Quito Ecuador Pioneer JourneysAfter breakfast, We drive into the heart of colonial Quito. This city is home to an array of beautiful cathedrals, elegant old mansions, interesting museums, squares and parks. This outstanding cultural, architectural and artistic heritage led Quito to be declared the first Cultural World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1978.
• Day 3: Cotopaxi National Park
Cotopaxi National Park Ecuador Pioneer Journeys AcclimatizationLeaving Quito after breakfast in the morning, we’ll drive 2 hours south to the El Porvenir Hacienda in the Cotopaxi National Park, where we’ll accommodate and spend the rest of the day hiking in the surrounding area. Hopefully we’ll spot some rare bird species, llamas and wild Andean foxes. If we have clear skies, we’ll enjoy a spectacular view of the perfect cone shaped Cotopaxi Volcano. Since the Hacienda is at 3.600m/11,810ft, our acclimatization process will be started. B/L
• Day 4: Rumiñahui Summit (4634 m/15,203 ft)
Andes Hihglands Ecuador Pioneer Journeys
After a healthy rustic breakfast, we’ll start the 4 hours ascent to the Central Peak of the extict volcano Rumiñahui (4.634m/15,203ft). We’ll walk up through Andean Paramo (colorful high altitude grass carpets) with always an spectacular view of several surrounding volcanoes as Cayambe, Antisana, Illinizas and our next challenge, the massive Cotopaxi. At the summit, we will enjoy our lunch and prepare for the two hours descent back to the El Porvenir. B/L

• Day 5: Refuge of Cotopaxi
Cotopaxi Andes Ecuador
After breakfast, we’ll drive to the entrance of the Cotopaxi National Park and to the car park located at 4.600 m / 15092 ft. From there, we’ll hike for about an hour to the refuge (4.800 m / 15,750 ft). Once in the hut, we’ll take lunch and prepare for the climb to one of the most beautiful mountains of the high Andes: the perfect cone of Cotopaxi. B/L/D
• Day 6: Cotopaxi´s Summit (5897 m/19,347 ft)
Chimborazo
Our climb will begin at about one in the morning. As all normal big Ecuadorian volcanoes routes, this is also quite physically demanding. After a 30 degree rocky and ashy slope, we’ll enter the glacier area and the several 30 to 45 degrees slopes that will take us to the edge of the one of most impressive crater formations. Having enjoyed the sunrise during our climb, from the top of that gigantic perfect cone shaped active volcano (19,347 ft / 5.897 m), we’ll be amazed at the views of the deep crater and the also caped mountains of Antizana, Cayambe and Chimborazo. After our 3 hours descent, we’ll head back to Quito where you’ll be able to rest in one of our associated hotels, celebrate and prepare for your next adventure. B/L
• Day 7: Indian Market
Cuenca Ecuador Today we drive to the city of Otavalo. After two or three hours we arrive to this small town famous for its indigenous market well known in Ecuador and all over the continent. Here natives from the mountains, descend into the valley to sell their crafts, textiles, musical instruments and goats. We will spend the day bargaining with the locals over fine sweaters, tapestries and woodwork. Then we will visit the city of Cotacachi named city of leather and the crater lake of Cuicocha. At the end of the day we drive back to Quito. B/
• Day 8: Jumandi Caves / Tena
Papallacta Lagoon EcuadorOur adventure starts in the city of Quito, approximately at 10:00 am bound for the eastern region of Ecuador. Our first destination are Jumandy Caves, rock formations with figures that resemble images of animals, birds, plants and any figures your imagination can create. The darkness and the eternal guardians (bats) of the cave are ready to welcome us. Ideal for your first pictures and footage of beautiful landscapes of the Ecuadorian Highlands and large formations of rainforest, natural waterfalls and majestic canyons. B/L
• Day 9: Rafting Class III Jatunyacu/ Short hike in Jungle/ Camping in front of the Napo River
Amazon Jungle Kayaking Ecuador Rainforest
The start of the eight day of adventure is at Jatunyacu River (River of big waves) where we will test your skills to maneuver your kayak or teamwork in the rafting. The route is rated with a difficulty of Class III. The journey continues downstream for approximately two hours to reach the junction of the Napo river Anzu. At night after a walk through the jungle you will share moments of relaxation with our guides and natives of the riverside area.B/L/D
• Day 10: Rafting Class III-II/ Hike to the Latas Waterfall/ Night at Cotococha Lodge/ Hike by night
Rafting Ecuador Pioneer Journeys

We will have further action, doing more kayaking or rafting on the Rio Anzu, with stretches of difficulty II and III. In the evening we will walk by the Ecological Cotococha Area to see tropical animals that can only be viewed under the sunset.B/L/D
• Day 11: Kayak-Raft Ride CLASS II/ Misahualli Monkeys/ Spend a night with a traditional Kichua Family
Discovery Ecuador
To relax your muscles after two days of heavy wear on the fourth day, we will do some kayaking or rafting class II. At night you will share moments of interaction with an Aboriginal community (Quechua) to learn their customs, traditions and legends of great spirits and gods of the forest. B/L/D
• Day 12: Kayak-Raft Ride CLASS II/ Animal Reserve/ Indigenas Museum
Kayaking Ecuador Pioneer Journeys
The twelfth day of the expedition paddle up to the Cotococha ecological reserve, where you can observe animals and fauna and practice the ancient techniques of hunting with blowguns. Then paddle hard to the camp Campanacocha can prepare your bags out of the jungle to the city of Tena to rest.

This day is the last day of our services and you will have some free time to take a walk or visit some touristic places and get yourself ready to you next destination. B/
