Overview
This climbing program is for climbers with some experience looking for further instruction or simply a great classic climbing experience in the unique volcanic rock cliffs of Ecuador. Emphasizing safety, instruction, knowledge and fun, this program we’ll guide you to the best classic climbing of Ecuador located in the southern part of the country: Cojitambo, one of the three sacred mountains for the indigenous group Cañari. This volcanic formation has cliffs of 160 m/525ft and more than 60 opened routs of different climbing styles. Its traditional and artificial climbing routs are the best of Ecuador. Always following the preferences of our clients, we’ll show you the best routs with grades ranging from 5.6/IV to 5.13b/8a. All gear is provided and we take care of all logistics in order for you to have the best climbing experience while getting to know Cuenca and the beautiful southern part of Ecuador and its people. Cuenca, apart from the fact that was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is a thrilling city with great night life that really must be experienced if you come to Ecuador. Pioneer Journeys rock climbing guides are the best in the country. Most of them have personal experience on rock climbing routes around the world and have equipped many routs in the areas you are going to visit. Each guide will have a maximum of two clients as climbing partners. Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary

• Day 1:

Ecuador Mountain Climbing Tours Ruco Pichincha Volcano

We leave Quito in the morning from your hotel to the airport to take a plane to the historical city of Cuenca. If we are lucky with the weather during the flight, we will have a privileged view of the perfect cone-shaped volcanoes of Cotopaxi and Chimborazo. From the airport in Cuenca we’ll go straight ahead to Cojitambo, where our guides will appropriately indicate you the best suitable routs. Our guides will always take care of belaying and climbing first the routs if necessary. At dark, we’ll drive back to Cuenca and accommodate you in one of our comfortable associated hotels and accompany you to a fancy restaurant for a delicious meal. The rest of the nights will be also spent in Cuenca, so that you can enjoy also the lovely environment of this beautiful small city.

• Day 2 and 3:

This second and third day we leave in the morning to the same place of Cojitambo to go on climbing traditional or artificial routs of your desired grades. Bolted routs will be always available in the area if it is of your interest. You’ll have the opportunity to climb on sight or practice some challenging routes. Cojitambo offers you grades from 5.6/IV to 7a/5.13b. You’ll pass both nights in your hotel in Cuenca.

• Day 4:

Today is a climbing rest day, but full of activities that can be arranged for you among your preferences. One strongly recommended option is to visit the spectacular National Park of Cajas and its amazing highland lagoons and rivers system.

• Day 5 and 6:

Ecuador Mountain Climbing Tours Cotopaxi Volcano

We will return this fifth and sixth day to Cojitambo. As always, Pioneer Journeys offers you the possibility to change the itinerary, so if it is of your interest, we can go to another climbing spot and do some sport or bouldering climbing.

• Day 7:

We leave in the morning to take the plane back to Quito. Depending on your flight schedule, we may do a final walk in the city and buy the traditional handmade Panama Hut. In Quito, we’ll bring you to your hotel for a deserved rest and to get prepared for your next experience in Ecuador.
