This bouldering program is for climbers with some experience looking for further instruction or simply a great bouldering experience in the unique volcanic rocks of Ecuador. Emphasizing safety, instruction, knowledge and fun, this program will guide you to the best bouldering spots of Ecuador, all located in the southern part of the country.
Always following the preferences of our clients, we’ll show you amazing boulders with grades ranging from V0/4 to V13/8b.
Crashpads, chalk and the rest of the community equipment are provided and we take care of all logistics in order for you to have the best climbing experience while getting to know Cuenca and the beautiful southern part of Ecuador and its people. Cuenca, apart from the fact that was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is a thrilling city with great night life that really must be experienced if you come to Ecuador.
Pioneer Journeys bouldering guides are the best in the country. Most of them have personal experience on rock climbing and bouldering around the world and have developed the bouldering areas you are going to visit.

We leave Quito in the morning from your hotel to the airport to take a plane to the historical city of Cuenca. If we are lucky with the weather during the flight, we will have a privileged view of the perfect cone-shaped volcanoes of Cotopaxi and Chimborazo. From the airport in Cuenca we’ll go straight ahead to one of the bouldering areas near Cuenca.
There are three main bouldering areas around Cuenca, all really a must! One of them is located two hours drive from Cuenca, so if it is of your interest to visit it, we will pass one or two nights with tents in one of the most beautiful parts of the Andes. The rest of the nights, we’ll be accommodated in one of our comfortable associated hotels in Cuenca, so that you can enjoy also the lovely environment of this beautiful small city.
We have seven days to go climbing as much as you and your fingers are willing to. We recommend to climb three days, rest the forth and climb again the next three.
For the resting day, we will guide you to the National Park of Cajas and its amazing highland lagoons and rivers system. Also, we will offer you plenty of other activities that can be arranged for you taking into account your preferences.
